SEALED. Service Hours 411

Hello Everyone!

Many of you have been asking about Service Hours so here are some answers to your questions:

Q: How many hours of service does my teenager need to complete?

A: As you all know we had originally planned to do a service project all together on MLK Day in conjunction with LA Works. Unfortunately, LA Works had a scheduling error that caused us to cancel the project. We originally asked all of you to attend this service project and complete 2 hours of service independently. However because of the cancellation, we are asking all of you to now complete 4 hours of service independently.

Q: Where can we serve?

A: There are many opportunities for you to complete your hours. We provided 2 options at the beginning of the year in your packet:

Brothers Helpers
Location:
Holy Redeemer- Tuesday Evenings or Saint James- Thursday Evenings
For more information please visit the parish website

The Burrito Project
Location: South Pasadena/Lincoln Heights
Dates: Visit their website

If you are involved or know of any other opportunities to serve, please know that you are NOT limited to these 2 options. All we ask is that wherever you choose to serve that it meets these requirements:

1) Serving requires some sacrifice. We ask that you pick a place to serve that might be out of your comfort zone. Please pick a place intentionally and not out of convenience.

2) Service requires providing love to someone in need of it. This love can come in the form of providing basic needs to the poor like food, clothing, or shelter. It can also come in the form of spending time with people who need some extra support or someone to listen to them, such as the elderly or sick. Think about Jesus. Who were the people he would serve and reach out to?

We ask that if you do choose an organization outside of the 2 options we have provided, that you please run it by Michael Paul first. You can contact him via email, phone call, or text.

Q: Do parents need to serve with their teen(s)?

A: Parents are NOT required to serve with their teens but we encourage families to serve together. SEALED. is a journey for BOTH parents and teens, so in order to gain a deeper experience on this journey, please considering joining your teen in service. Also, some of these organizations do not allow minors to serve without a parent or guardian present due to safety or liability so please be mindful of that.

Q: How do we get credit for the service hours?

A: We ask that you fill out the service form below to get credit for your hours. Please put your name at the top and turn it in to the church office, Michael Paul, or a core member when you have completed all 4 hours.

Q: When are service hours due?

A: Service forms are due by your last SEALED. session of the year. Please refer to your SEALED. schedule.

Thank you for your commitment to SEALED. We can't wait to hear about your experiences serving the community!
